Publishing -- The Ideal Work at Home Business?

Less than 20 years go, publishers were still preparing their products by hand. Type was set using very large, heavy and expensive equipment. Pages, paragraphs, lines of text and even single words were cut and pasted on to sheets of paper before being photographed to produce the film needed for plate making. Any mistakes or corrections -- at any stage -- were costly and very time consuming. A misspelled word would involve more typesetting, cutting out the offending word and pasting in the corrected one. Of course, the replacement would often be a different length necessitating at the very least accurately resetting the line, and it wasn't out of the question that the whole page would have to done again. Perish the thought that a client might want to insert a paragraph of text in a book at the last minute.

Before the sheet could be considered 'camera ready' it would have to be meticulously cleaned; all remnants of the tacky pasting glue removed. Whatever the camera saw so too would the eventual reader of the book or magazine being printed.
Publishing involved extremely specialised, skilful and patient work before the printing press was turned on. It is a wonder anything made it into print at all.

And now? Almost as quickly as you can type, your words can be made available to a huge proportion of the world's population at almost zero expense. And yet the demand for information and reading matter is still here -- probably greater than it ever was.
You'd be hard pressed to think of a business that doesn't need a publishing service of some sort and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't need or enjoy reading or consuming information. Is it any surprise that publishing has become one of the most ideal businesses to work from home or small office?
There is a resultant paradox though. In this age of information overload and a simplicity in serving that market, the skills of the publisher are just as valuable as they were years ago. Publishing standards have inevitably declined, anyone can do it now; very few can do it well though. If you can produce clear, crisp, well designed and imaginative information it will cut straight through the jungle we have before us.

And, that is what Neesh Enterprises is primarily about: helping you rise above the field in your publishing endeavour. Whether, your desire is to write that book that everyone has in them or start and run your own publishing business, we can guide you along the way.
